Fishing Industry

Fishing Industry: 

Fishing is one of the oldest occupation for the people living near lakes, rivers and seas. With the progress of civilization, fishing communities starting breeding fish. This is called aquaculture.

Fishing in Pakistan:

Fishery and fishing industry plays a significant part in the national economy of Pakistan. With a coastline of about 814 km, Pakistan has enough fishery resources that remain to be developed. Most of the population of the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan depends on fisheries for livelihood. It is also a major source of export earning.


Fishing Methods:

  1. Marine Fishing  a) Subsistence Fishing. b) Commercial Fishing
  2. Inland Fishing



Fishing Areas in Pakistan:
  1. Sindh
  2. Makran Coast
Pakistan has a coastline divided into Sindh and the Makran Coast. The Sindh coast 30% of the coastline and the Makran coast is 70%.
In Sindh Karachi is the main fishing center.
On the Makran coast fishing spots are small. Gwadar is the main fishing port in this coast.
